Where is Sheppard AFB? Sheppard AFB is near the city of Wichita Fall Texas. The city of Wichita Falls is located in the very northern portion of the state of Texas about 10 miles south of the Oklahoma state line. A number of changes have taken place in the Air Force over the last several years. The command in charge of Sheppard, and other Air Force training bases, and the major unit (a.k.a: "Host Unit") have changed since I attended technical training. The unit in charge of Air Force training bases is now known as the Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The unit in charge of Sheppard AFB is now known as the 82nd Training Wing.
