Where is Lackland AFB?

Lackland AFB is located next to San Antonio Texas.  The city of San Antonio is located in the southern-half of the state of Texas about 200 miles west of Houston and about 275 miles north of Brownsville.  Here is a map showing exactly where San Antonio is:

My Story

Welcome to Lackland Air Force Base (AFB) Texas.  This base is where all Air Force enlisted personnel enter the Air Force and attend basic training.  This base used to be run by the Air Training Command (ATC), also known as the "Army of Terrorized Civilians".  This command was also in charge of other Air Force training bases.

Your first six weeks are spent at Lackland, unless your technical training (a.k.a. "Tech School")  is also located at this base.  It is the most confusing time that I have spent anywhere.  With all the training you go through, you're kept pretty busy.  To visit the unit I was assigned to, the 3723rd Basic Military Training Squadron (BMTS), click on the link below.

Historical Note!

A number of changes have taken place in the Air Force over the last several years.  The command in charge of Lackland, and other Air Force training bases, and the major unit (a.k.a: "Host Unit") have changed since I attended basic training.  The unit in charge of Air Force training bases is now known as the Air Education and Training Command (AETC).  The unit in charge of Lackland AFB is now known as the 37th Training Wing.  If you desire to visit the public web sites for these units, click on the symbol below:
